CMW 2009: Capsula
By Brad Frenette
Canadian Music Week '09 kicks off in Toronto on March 11. Chances are you've not heard of many of the bands playing the fest, so we sent out an email Q&A to help everyone get acquainted. We'll be presenting several of them here on The Ampersand as a preview to the festival.
Q: Describe your music in ten words or less.
A: love psychedelic sonic party salvaje electric noise savage you amazing southamerica
Q: Where do you call home?
A: We ve been moving a lot in the last years. At first we used to live at the rehearsal room for long. So there was there microwaves, drums, beds, guitars and tambourines all over, a beautiful mix of things. We live in a house now in Bilbao close to the mountains, but we are most of the time on the road, touring.
Q: Is this your first CMW? If yes, tell us what you expect from it? If not, give some advice to a band who's playing it for the first time.
A: Yes it is, Well what I expect is to ride on someone's shoulders during our show. Also that a lot of people show up to the gig. It's going to be a party.
Q: If you were chosen to play at Barack Obama's inauguration, which of your songs would you have picked to play, and why?
A: 'Sun Shaking' and 'Wild C'. In 'Wild C' we shout for freedom. Martin says it's a sexual song. It has a lovely deranged beat, an adrenaline rush. We love it.
Q: If your live show was a colour, which colour would it be?
A: Silver, turning blue, other times bright orange.
Q: With so many bands playing CMW, why should people come see you?
A: We are gonna have fun but first comes music, we got sounds.
Q: Finish this sentence: "When I'm on stage, I ---"
A: If I play the bass deeply, I can see Keith Richards face.
Q: What's the most memorable thing that's happened while you were on tour?
A: Well this is not about Keith Richards face, not at all but after a tour in Chile, we were waiting at the airport the plane to land and cross La Cordillera de los Andes. Well, we were there in this waiting room, only the three of us joking and talking about if the plane crashes who would be eaten first of us and why and suddenly Lemmy of Motorhead appears jajaja. That was strange. Motorhead was playing in Chile as well the night before and he was going to Buenos Aires. We were shocked, he had a tall hat, a book in his hand and the longest boots I ve ever seen. I have a picture to prove it.
